The Fantasy Kingdom Comes to Central Florida
Walt Disney World opened in 1971 with the Magic Kingdom Park. Soon three more theme parks followed focusing on technology, the movies, and the world of animals.
It’s hard to imagine central Florida without Walt Disney World but before Disney left his mark the area was mostly agricultural. The Magic Kingdom was the first of the theme parks, followed by Epcot, the Disney Studios, and the Animal Kingdom. Each park focused on a different theme such as technology, the movies, and the world of animals.

The #1 reason for visiting Walt Disney World is still the theme parks. Each one is unique in name and theme. Magic Kingdom still holds the magic we all grew up with. A place where we can go to live our fantasies. Epcot is an educational experience, geared to stimulate and enhance the entire families outlook on the future. Disney Hollywood Studios offers guests the chance to see how movies are made. With audience participation. Animal Kingdom Is Disney’s unique vision of a zoo, it is a chance to get an up close view of how wild animals live in their natural habitats.
We hope to give you a general idea of what each park has to offer so you can plan your vacation and visit the places that most interest you. The thrill and excitement comes with actually being there and sharing in the magic – without breaking the bank doing it.
Magic Kingdom
The Magic Kingdom Park has remained the resort’s most popular park since its opening date of October 1, 1971. The Park was built out of Walt Disney’s childhood fantasies, pixie dust and plenty of imagination. Its storybook attractions are divided between seven intricately themed “lands.” and attractions.
Epcot
Opened on October 1, 1982. EPCOT opened at Walt Disney World Resort, spanning several hundred acres. In some ways, the forward thinking of Future World and the diversity of cultures at World Showcase keep a part of Walt’s dream alive
Hollywood Studios
Opened on May 1, 1989, Michael Eisner described it as “the Hollywood that never was and always will be”. Evidence of this is found as soon as you approach the main gates, which are fashioned after the Los Angeles Pan-Pacific Auditorium of 1935.
Animal Kingdom
Opened on Earth Day, April 22, 1998. Concern for the earth and its’ creatures is the focus of Walt Disney World Resort fourth theme park. Some of the world’s leading zoologists and conservationists were asked to be part of the advisory committee that offered its expertise and played an integral part in the development.
Walt Disney World is not just about the four theme parks, there is much more to see and do, including two water parks. Blizzard Beach Water Park and Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. Both consistently rank among the Top 10 water parks in the nation, they are distinctly unique in theme and their attractions. Blizzard Beach Water Park is themed after a “snowstorm” that hit Central Florida, and the resulting melting of the snow has made for some of the world’s most exhilarating water rides, including the world’s tallest body slide in Summit Plummet. Typhoon Lagoon, however, is set in a tropical oasis that has recently been hit by a raging typhoon and is home to one of the world’s largest wave pools – one that has waves so big, even surfers enjoy it!
