A mangrove forest resembling the one that De Soto’s soldiers would have met upon landing is one of the Florida ecosystems that the Nature Trail passes through as it meanders down the shoreline and across. The De Soto Expedition’s history as well as the local natural history are explained with interpretative markers and waysides on the trails. The parking lot is bicycle-friendly, but the sidewalks and paths are not. While wandering the trails, your dog will appreciate taking a little dip to stay cool.

There are exhibits along the trail where you may read more about the local history. While strolling around the park with your dog on a leash, you are allowed to let him run and swim once you get to the beach.
