Pros and Cons of moving to St Augustine

Florida is a large and very diverse state as is other large states CA, TX and NY. Therefore we can’t possibly answer that question because each region of the state; NE, NW, Central, SE and SW have completely different characteristics and attributes, therefore this website has chosen to focus on ST. Education

St Johns River State College: Since 1958, SJR State has built a solid reputation as a full-service college dedicated to meeting the educational and workforce training needs of its Northeast Florida district. With campuses in Orange Park, Palatka and St. Augustine, SJR State is truly the community’s college, enriching a diverse population of students ranging in age from 16 to 60.

SJR State continues its comprehensive educational role by expanding its services and programs while continuing its focus on the Associate in Arts (transfer) degree and more than 30 Associate in Science degrees and certificates. The College recently expanded its mission to include two baccalaureate degrees.

Recreation

St. Johns County Recreation & Parks Department offers an abundance of choices for outdoor activities). There are 30 parks that offer, swimming and aquatics, picnic grounds, canoeing, hiking and biking trails, boat ramps, lighted tennis and paddle tennis courts, community centers, municipal golf course, and more. There is an abundance of water sports with a 42-mile stretch of sand beach shoreline, with state parks and public recreation areas. There is also a wide variety of both inland and offshore fishing.

The area is not hurricane-proof but it is has the lowest probability of a land-falling hurricane anywhere on the East Coast or the Gulf Coast of the United States. Northeast Florida’s unique geographic location as the westernmost city on the Eastern Seaboard plays a part in the formula of the recurvature effect. As storms curve north and east, they have a very high tendency to stay offshore. Northeast Florida has historically been “protected” from a direct hit by a hurricane. In the past century, no hurricane Category 3 or higher has made landfall on the First Coast.
